Website Media
Below is an example of website media that a large brand would use on their website. If the website media is successful via getting many hits, or it has gone ‘viral‘. That website media is then reformatted for Broadcast. More about that later. Prestige brands, “large brands” are forever branding the consumer. This is done so you select their brand over the competitor’s at point of purchase. You, as a business owner may not be competing with big ‘prestige’ brands, yet you might be trying to emulate them. This is probably why you are here learning about website media to market your brand as the big brands do. First off, you need to decide on the type of website media you are going to use. Let dive in!
Deciding on Website Media
There are choices for website media. Some like Flash video as you can learn about that here. Others want infomercial type video. There are those who like to use a series for their website media and of course, there are the ‘set it and forget it’ types. Those who just want ‘timeless’ website media that goes over their motto, slogan, or reason one should do business with them. This way they do not have to change out their website media out, but every 5 years or so.
Formats of Website Media
Above in the first paragraph, I mentioned formatting website media for broadcast T.V. This is where website media video is then formatted to abide the required format for broadcast TV. Good example of this would be the Superbowl commercials that are submitted by media producers. Those commercials are submitted / uploaded in video format as website media, on a contest basis. The one that is selected (the winner) is then to air during the Superbowl, needs to be then reformatted to a signal that all set-top boxes can decode and play back on your TV. Flash video is a good choice for website media as it loads fast and is a smaller file as well as you can embed links into the videos, so browsers can click through to a preselected URL. These are great for parking your ad on an affiliates page to get clients to click through. You see this method on Youtube videos. The little ads at the bottom with a link in them, monetizing videos. There are some out there making Millions off those little ads at the bottom of their website media.
DIY’s are usually the one’s that run their own page/site, more like a social media page. Where they are constantly updating their website media with the latest video they’ve shot, promoting whatever that goes along with their theme. Or like a motivational speaker, who wants to place hi-lite of certain seminars to compel the viewer to sign up. Believe it or not, some out there are still using JPG and GIF’s for website media. “The original short commercial”. Back in the day when you were asked to save to computer to watch a video, before streaming video… Webmasters still use that format for website media so that any browser opens the “eye-candy” on one’s site. Yet as mentioned so many times before. The Customer has come to expect more out of a website.
Hosting Website Media
Hosting website media, as mentioned in prior articles is really about, how much maintenance you want to do to your website. Along with how much website media you are hosting. If you are like most business owners, plugging in a Vimeo or Youtube embed link on a couple pages is all you need. Yes, it may take a few seconds longer for a page to load in some browsers. However, you do not have to worry if you have the latest codec in your website media if someone accesses your video with the newest Iphone. Let the coders over at these free hosting sites worry about it. The only people who cannot do things like this are adult sites due to user restriction by these big companies like Youtube and Vimeo. For the moment I will just assume none of you are hosting that kind of site. It really is a no-brainier for you to have current website media and keep it fresh. Face it people love to be entertained.
Re-using Website Media
This is an interesting approach to advertising dollars. Think about it. If you have had a business for a while you know that the second go around for stationary and business cards is usually a little cheaper, with no set fee, etc. With website media the same can be achieved. The things that would need to be changed would be a few dates, maybe a price or two, or a rebate of some kind. Take for example Christmas, comes every year and has the same theme. As a business owner you too want to get involved with using the theme to promote you brand. If you take your website media and create it with a link in it like that flash video I mentioned. One would only need to resurrect that video at Christmas time, to then change the Web page that the link pointed to. Or update the page that link goes to. Thereby re-using website media as the seasons change. One should consider their webpage as a store front and merchandise it accordingly. Using website media to enrich it.
Well that is it on website media for this one. As always look forward to hearing comments or suggestions in the comment section below. Due to Spam bots I need you to mention website media in your post so I know you are a real commenter.
